50s Sock Hop Theme Invitations
A sock hop 50's Party Theme 1950s gave birth to Rock ‘N Roll music and a popular culture. This is the era when Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and of course the King of Rock 'N Roll, Elvis Presley ruled the air ways. A sock hop represent an independence from authority, a release of the rebel within all of us. The young generation (teenagers) emerged as their own cultural and social category. They had their own music, their own fashion, and their own social arrangements. Remember in the 50's there were no CDs or cassettes to listen to music. At sock hops teenagers would gather around the record player to spin their 78s and 45s. Sock Hops were an opportunity to dance and be carefree. The ladies wore poodle skirts, bobby socks, saddle shoes and beehive hairdos. The fellas rolled up their jeans to show off their converse snickers and donned leather jackets. The prosperity of the 1950s gave young people spending money they had never had before. This was also the time of The Beatniks young people who were poets and artist. The most famous beats Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac denounced modern life, espoused a life of cultural rebellion.
